This blog is going to be sharing a A Short History of E-Commerce Technology. This type of electronic technology has forever changed the way that most companies (very small and very large alike) do business. This technology was not always at the stage where it currently is, it had to grow over decades to become what we know it as today.

When it comes to the mingling of electronics and commerce, things pretty much got started throughout the later part of the 1970′s when the earliest forms of EDI and EFT were introduced.Get more information here. http://thisgirlcantalk.wordpress.com/2011/06/09/three-modes-of-e-commerce/ The earliest forms of “electronic data exchange” allowed companies to send and receive documents (invoices and etc…) electronically. The earliest forms of “electronic funds transfer” allowed companies and consumers to debit the bank accounts of one another electronically for the very first time!

During the 1980′s things started to evolve even more as credit cards, debit cards, electronically processed checks, ATM machines and phone commerce were all thrown into the mix. However, we all know that to get things to where we have them today the internet has to be introduced.

During the earliest part of the 1990′s the web was strictly an academic tool that few people had access to. Up until halfway through the decade (1995 to be exact) any form commercial enterprise on the world wide web was strictly prohibited. Once enterprise was allowed to move up to the web the “.com” craze started and computers were used to place orders the same way that phones used to be. At the turn of the current century we started to see the “.com” as a huge platform for world wide commerce.

Some E-Commerce services that are bought and sold are all digital such as access to web site elements or videos on demand. For the most part technology has changed the way that people order and ship tangible merchandise as this is the section that still makes up the largest section of the E-Commerce pie.
