Q. When will my domain be active? A. It depends. If you have a new domain then it should be active within 2-3 days. You can check if your domain is active by checking with Network Solutions. Click http://www.networksolutions.com/ and click the "whois" button on the upper right. You should see at the bottom of your domain record you should see: Domain servers in listed order: DNS4.COMMANDLINE.NET 67.100.2.117 DNS4.COMMANDLINE.NET 69.211.150.161 If you do not see this within 2 days of your order with us, then Network Solutions has not received a confirmation from you. To expedite the approval process you may want to fax a letter, stating that you would like to approve the transfer of your domain, along with a copy of your drivers license. You can also call Network Solutions at (703)742-4777. Q. On my new domain I am not getting my e-mail, why? A. The transfer or registration is not complete. Within 1-2 days of Network Solutions displaying Commandline DNS servers (see above) your e-mail should function fine. If you need additional help please feel free to call Commandline Media at 1-877-306-8777. Q. How should I configure my FTP program? A. FTP is for uploading your files. This is the process where you put your images and files from your computer, to the server. FTP stands for 'File Transfer Protocol'. Your username should be configured as XXXXXXX. In your FTP program such as WSFTP and CuteFTP, your 'password' should be configured as XXXXXXX (unless you have changed it). Your 'host name' should be configured as your IP address 67.100.2.117, or your domain name, http://mydomain.com. Your 'default directory' should be left blank. In case you are prompted for the 'default directory', use "\" without the quotation marks. All other options should be left in their default settings for normal access. Q. Why is my password marked with an XXXXXXX? A. Your username and password are marked with an X here because this email was sent unencrypted, and could be intercepted. If it was intercepted in transit, then someone could gain access to your website. It has been blocked out for your protection. Please refer to your 'Welcome' page print out you created when you originally registered. If you did not print it out, or if you lost the print out, or if you forgot your password, just go to http://xgenerator.com/ and click on 'password' to retrieve your password. You will need your Authorization Word and User ID to retrieve your password. Q. Where do I load my web page documents? A. In your 'root directory', for example, the directory you initially log into. Your 'root directory' is the main directory you log into - in other words when you double click on a folder, you are in the 'root' of the that directory or folder. Initial remote directory is "\" without the quotation marks. Your remote location is http://67.100.2.117. IMPORTANT: Your images should be store in the "images" directory/folder. By default, when you upload images to your site using the X Generator, they are stored in the "images" folder. Q. I've loaded my web pages but still get the default X Generator default pages. Why? A. When we set up a new account, we put in default X Generator files to get you started. You can request that these files be removed in favor of your own website, or, you can rebuild your website using the X Generator. If you want your files to replace the X Generator, then you will not be able to use the X Generator. You can, however, use your mail administration by accessing https://mail.mydomain.com:8384, and check your mail with https://mail.mydomain.com:8384. If you choose to build your site manually and do not wish to use the X Generator, the send your request to info@commandline.net with the subject "Change start page:mydomain.com." We will need to know the page name of the file you would like as your starting point. For instance, if you would like index.htm, index.html, default.asp, default.html, etc. You can easily integrate your existing files in the X Generator by linking to them by clicking 'Add Page From Home.' There are 2 ways to do this. The first: FTP your files and images. Remember to put your .html files in the main directory, and the images in the "images" directory. Then log into the X Generator and click 'Add Page From Home' and follow the instructions. The second (simpler): log in to the X Generator and click 'Add Page From Home' and upload the files directly from your home computer. Still have questions? Try our Getting Started page. |
